Each Psalm opens a gate, for the person who doesn't know his or her gate of repentance reading Psalms is recommended by our Sages. The Bal Shem Tov recommends 3x day starting with the 1st of Elul, which this year is the same day in September, making it incredibly easy to know which Psalms to read, you can look at the calendar today is the 23rd of Sept and the 23rd of Elul, multiply 23 x 3 (Psalms a day) and you get 69 which is the last in the 3 count for today, 67, 68, 69.
